As Taiwan’s pig industry moves into the third quarter of 2026, the market environment continues to face several challenges. Recently, disease-related issues have affected production on some farms, leading to increased mortality and reduced production performance. This has contributed to a tighter pig supply in the market. Effectively managing disease risks, reducing production losses and maintaining herd productivity have therefore become key concerns for producers.
Following Taiwan’s reinstatement as an ASF-free country by WOAH earlier this year, pork export opportunities are gradually recovering, bringing new opportunities to the industry. However, with ongoing disease pressure, production costs and market competition, the importance of improving herd health management and production efficiency has become increasingly evident.
In response to the current challenge of limited pig supply, rebuilding animal numbers alone is not enough. Improving overall farm efficiency is equally important, including enhancing sow productivity, increasing piglet survival rates, strengthening disease monitoring and biosecurity, and optimizing farm management and production practices. Through more systematic technical and management approaches, farms can reduce the impact of disease on production and build more resilient production systems.
